VARIATIONS

1912-13:  3-digits have dash suffix.

1915-16:  2-digit has no dashes. (Verify 1914, 1917)

1916-17:  1-digit flanked by dashes. (Verify 1914-15)

1917:     5-digit has thinner dies.

1918:     No dashes used.

          Type 1 - Square dies     1 -  7141

          Type 2 - Round dies  13036, 13615,

                               14118 - 18994  (4,882)

1919:     1-2-digits flanked by dashes.

          5-digit has thinner dies.

1925:     "FRONT" or "REAR" marked.

1932-46:  1-3-digits flanked by two sun symbols.

1947:     Serif "1" all plates, including 11-595.

          Non-serif "1" in prefix 11-3229 - 11-3243.

1948:     Serif "1" in prefix.

          Non-serif "1" in prefix.  (Verify County 14)

1949:     Most are waffle aluminum.

          Some plates reportedly smooth aluminum.

1950:     Early issues smooth aluminum.     (11-405)

          Late issues steel with 1951 dies. (1-11816 - 1-11870, 2-42840)

1951:     Most have 4 inner bolt holes.

          Late issues have 4 corner holes and 4 long bolt slots.

1952:     Most have inner bolt holes.  (2-49097, 7-9734)

1953-57:  Trucks have reverse colors, unmarked.

1957:  Period news articles mention stacked plates with new dies

       for counties 15, 16 and 17.  These may be the 1958 dies.

       15-7131, 17-2210 normal; 1/6-10118 has 1958 dies, no left

       "57", and slogan at far right, not centered.

1957:  Type 1 - 1953-56 dies 2-69993, 6-13919, 15-7131, 16-9162,

                             all other counties

          2-Y6510 - 2-Y7427 have double-stamped zia error.
